MAGIC and the Autonomous Robotics Innovation Center are committed to priortizing the safety and security or our students and staff using various policies and processes that address how your information and safety is handled.
Privacy
- Compliance with Regulations: MAGIC & ARIC adheres to relevant federal and state laws and regulations governing student & particpant privacy.
- Confidentiality of Records: Participant records, including health and mental health information, are maintained confidentially and shared only when educationally relevant, necessary for emergencies, or to protect other students or staff. MAGIC nevers sells or shares information for marketing purposes.
- Cybersecurity Measures: MAGIC & ARIC utilizes standard safety measures to protect against data breaches and cyberattacks, including SSL-capable browsers, password protection, and guidance for safe online practices.
- Public Information Act: Requests for public records, including those containing student information, are handled in accordance with the Maryland Public Information Act, balancing transparency with student privacy rights.
In essence, MAGIC and ARIC demonstrates its commitment to student safety and privacy through a multifaceted approach combining physical security measures, adherence to legal regulations, and proactive data protection strategies. As a public non-profit organization, MAGIC does not sell or share participant information without prior permission.
Safety
Physical safety and security
- Collaboration with law enforcement: MAGIC and ARIC partners with local law enforcement to enhance security, including law enforcement access to security cameras and saved security footage.
- Center Security: ARIC maintains building security through secure door access and security cameras within the building.
- Bullying Reporting System: ARIC relies on a zero tolerance policy when dealing with any incidents of bullying, harassment, or intimidation that occur on the centers property, or through electronic interaction.
- Visitor Policies: All visitors to the facility are required to check-in for all participants upon arrival. Proper Identification must be available upon request when picking up or interacting with students and staff. Access to the facility is either by key fob access or appointmant only.
- Equipment Safety: Specific safety guidelines are implemented in our makerspace area and lab settings, emphasizing safe conduct, appropriate attire, machine use protocols, and prompt reporting of accidents.
- Staff Training: All staff and volunteers are given proper training in the use of all robotics and makerspace equipment.
Staff and volunteers
We are comitted to providing a safe and warm learning environment for our students, community partners, and industry partners. As such, MAGIC has 3 levels of security for our staff and volunteers.
- Level Three: Level three volunteers are used when we are hosting large level events or functions. These volunteers are community partners and guests. These volunteers are always directly supervised by an organization staff member .
- Level Two: All level two volunteers are required to complete a comprehensive volunteer application pilimanary background check before interacting with participants. These volunteers may be instructors or guest lecturers. These are volunteers who may be teaching or instructing without MAGIC Staff in the immediate area.
- Level One: All MAGIC & ARIC employeed staff is designated as level one personnel. Each staff member goes through a thorough pre-employment background check.
